Top Five Best Bikes of Year 2008

bikes models,bikes of year,super bikes,best bikes

All in all, it’s been a great year for Indian motorcycling with some awesome bikes making it to Indian streets. The biggest story though, was of Yamaha making a comeback with not only the launch of their superbikes - the YZF-R 1 and the MT-01, but also with the unleashing of two superb 150 s - the FZ16 and the YZF-R 15 that have been selling like hotcakes. And then, as the year drew to an end, Suzuki played its big bike card to give us the monstrous M1800 R Intruder and the fabulous GSX1300 R Hayabusa. Ah ! What an year it has been indeed!

CBF Stunner Bike

The CBF Stunner had shown promise since the first time it was spotted at the Honda stall as a prototype at this year's Auto Expo.

After endless prodding by the media, the big H finally decided to give us punters a sportier Honda in the form of the CBF Stunner 125. Launched in June 2008, the bike has successfully caught the fancies of the average 125 cc buyers with its stunning looks and sporty appeal that has been derived from Honda's higher capacity sporty offerings in the international market. Honda is now exporting the Stunner to the European markets from its Indian manufacturing base.

Yamaha FZ16 Bike

What was the second stage of attacks from Yamaha on the Indian two wheeler segment is now proving to be the Japanese company’s front line. The FZ16 packs in a great mix of style, performance and refinement - all moulded into what many term as the best looking Indian motorcycle to date.

A clone of the much bigger FZs from foreign lands, the FZ16 is great fun to ride as well - both in the city and on the highway too. Armed with a torquey mill, the FZ16 may not have the racy charm of the R15, but there’s no doubt that it performs its city chores exceedingly well.

Suzuki Hayabusa Bike

The GSX1300 R Hayabusa needs no praise. It’s the fastest production motorcycle in the world and there’s absolutely no doubting that once you’re perched in the saddle. It’s performance on the highway is unquestionable but what makes all of us go gaga over the ‘Busa is how easy it is to ride around town as well. With the option of three power modes, the ‘Busa doesn’t bite newbie riders either.

If you’re the type who’s got loads of cash lying spare for a big bike, it’d be a no-brainer to get yourself one of these - afterall this bike did breathe new life into the Indian motorcycling scene!

YAMAHA YZF-R 15 Bike

After numerous failed attempts to excite the Indian buyer with fuel efficient products, Yamaha India was all set to shut the shop and exit from the Indian twowheeler arena.

Then suddenly the Jap major got enlightened and surprised the consumers as well as its rivals when it launched its first premium model for India, the Yamaha YZF-R 15. A true-blue Supersports motorcycle, the R15 has brought Yamaha back into the limelight and once again given it the sort of respect it commanded during the two-stroke era.

Zenvo Automotive Releases ST1 Supercar Packing 1104 Horsepower

Some of us already know Zenvo Automotive, a Danish firm, has created their introduction into the supercar segment -- the ST1. Powered by a powerful twin-charged (turbocharged and supercharged) V-8 engine, the ST11 produces 1104 horsepower and a whopping 1056 pound-feet of torque. 0-62 miles per hour happens in just three seconds, as well. Take that, Bugatti Veyron!

The Zenvo ST1 comes in a rear-drive layout and the only transmission offered is a six-speed manual. All 1104 horsepower is put to the ground via a set of nineteen-inch wheels with 255/35 Michelin tires in the front, while a set of twenties on 335/30R rubber round out the rear. Surprisingly, though, this car isn't very large -- 183.6 inches long, 80.4 inches wide, and 46.8 inches tall. On top of that, the ST1's carbon fiber body panels keep the weight to just over 3020 pounds. Inside, refinement is key, with keyless entry, satellite navigation, and a power-adjustable steering wheel and seats are standard.

No pricing information has been released as of this moment, though we're not sure if the car will even make it onto American soil. In any case, Zenvo plans to only produce fifteen of the ST1 supercars with the first ones to be built starting next year.

Chinese companies working on bigger, sportier bikes

600cc super-nakeds coming from China? Probably yes...!

According to a report on mcn, Chinese motorcycle manufacturers like loncin, zongshen and jialing are now working on bigger, sportier motorcycles – the kind which has never been made in China earlier.

China has, according to some estimates, been the largest producer of motorcycles since the mid-1990s. Currently, more than 20 million motorcycles are made in China every year and Chinese-built scooters and motorcycles are increasingly being exported around the world.

Until very recently, chineese manufactures were only making small-capacity commuter bikes and scooters. But now, according to the MCN report, they are working on bigger bikes, starting with 600s. Loncin, Zongshen and Jialing are said to have developed 600cc inline-fours, with which they may soon be taking on bikes like the Honda CB600F, Yamaha FZ6, Kawasaki ER6n, Suzuki GSR600 and Hyosung GT650 Comet.

Yamaha RD-engined Cagiva Mito 350

A 62bhp Mito is indeed what Cagiva should be building themselves...

Found this Cagiva Mito, which supposedly uses a 350cc two-stroke engine, on the PB mag forum. The webpage doesn’t say anything about which two stroke 350cc engine has been used, but we suppose it would be the Yamaha RD350 engine. The owner says it’s been tuned to make 62bhp.

The caviga Mito has also been fitted with the front end from an Aprilia RS250, 320mm front brake disc with six-piston calipers, Ohlins steering damper, NK Racing exhaust system, 34mm Mikuni flatslide carbs and Bridgestone BT090 rubber. Should be fun…!

Maruti Cars In India

Maruti Udyog Ltd. (MUL) was basically formed to cater to the problems of insufficient public transport capability of the Government. During the early 80's, India was facing tremendous problems regarding public transport. And there was no possible solution to curb this problem. The Indian markets were yet to be opened to globalization hence; there were very few car manufacturers in the country. However, the need for an alternative was becoming very necessary, when the Government of India through an Act of Parliament formed Maruti Udyog Ltd. in 1981.

After this, a Joint Venture agreement was signed by the Govt. of India and Suzuki Motor Company (now SuzukiMotor Corporation of Japan) in Oct 1982. There are almost 307 showrooms across 189 cities. They are managed by almost 6000 trained personnel. MUL has always been concerned about the quality of their services and products. Accordingly, it has been seen that Maruti owners experience very minimum problems as compared to the other car manufacturers of India. Another important aspect of Maruti India is that they provide all kinds of services and products under one roof.

Maruti 800, one of the first city cars, is the largest selling car in India. Recently, Maruti 800 went through some minor face lifts to maintain its dominance in the small segment cars. Maruti Alto is India's most popular and fuel efficient car. The maintenance cost of Maruti vehicles is also low as compared to the other manufacturers. This is one of the major USP's of MUL. Even technologically, they have attained a benchmark. They have introduced the superior 16*4 Hypertech engines in almost all their models.

This technology helps in increasing engine delivery. They have also introduced Electronic Power Steering in some of their models as well. MUL has three fully integrated production facilities with a range of 10 models in 50 variants. Their overall sales growth is of 15.8%, which also makes easier for the Indians to buy cars. Other successful small and big Maruti car models that have ruled the hearts of millions of Indians are Maruthi Baleno,Maruthi Esteem,Maruti Gypsym,Maruthi Swift,Maruthi Versa,Maruthi Wagano R
, Maruti Zen, etc.

Maruti Udyog Ltd

In 2001, Maruti Udyog Ltd became one of the first automobile companies anywhere in the world to get an ISO 9000:2000 certification. Recently, to meet the growing demands of four-wheeler automobile, Maruti Udyog Limited, collaborated with Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, to manufacture cars. On the 17th September 2007, Maruti Udyog was renamed as Maruti Suzuki India Limited and the company headquarters is in Gurgaon, Delhi. Maruti cars have ruled the roads in the past, in present, and promises to do so in the future also with its highly efficient cars.

Skoda Auto India

Skoda Auto India started its operations in India on November 16, 2001. They opened their manufacturing unit in Shendra, on the outskirts of Aurangabad. Thus setting their foot on the Indian soil. Skoda is based in the Czech Republic and was established in the year 1895. However, in 1990, the Czech Government decided to collaborate with a foreign brand and so in 1991 Skoda Auto became a subsidiary of Volkswagen and accordingly became its fourth brand along with Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT. Entering the Indian market in 2001 was highly beneficial for both Skoda and Volkswagen. Volkswagen, for long was waiting for an opportunity to enter the Indian automobile market.

So finally they entered the Indian market with one of the premier automobile manufacturers of Europe and a brand which is equally popular throughout the world called "Skoda". They deal in the luxury cars segment. Like all the other car manufacturing giants even they are of the opinion that India is a prospering market and that it has the potential to grow at a very rapid pace. They think that it is strategically very important to have a strong foothold in the Indian market.

Manufacturing Plant

Thus making the manufacturing plant in India their first ever manufacturing plant outside Europe.
Skoda car was highly accepted by the Indian population because it had the perfect combination of stylish looks and hardy exterior fitted with modern technology. This appreciation was reflected in the innumerable awards that this company received in India. At this point of time Skoda Auto India has one manufacturing plant capable of manufacturing 30,000 units. They have a network of 51 dealers spread throughout the country and have 35 different facilities. They have a market share of about 25% in the luxury car segment. Till date they have introduced 12 models in the luxury segment including their most popular model called the "Skoda Superb".

They are of the opinion that having a strong foothold in the Indian automobile market will allow them to prosper further in the South and East Asian markets. They want to make the Aurangabad manufacturing unit an exporting hub for the South and East Asian markets.
