Cold water diving

When practicing cold water diving, one of the main and most important things to have into account is which clothes to wear in order to keep warm. Keeping warm while diving in cold water is not as easy as it might sound since you must wear the proper clothes in order to be able not only to maintain your body temperature but at the same time keep your agility and be able to move as you need.

First of all, you should always remember that the dry suit you wear has the purpose of keeping you dry, not warm. Therefore, whenever you are going to practice cold water diving, you need to wear clothes with the purpose of maintaining your body temperature under your dry suit; they must complement each other.

There are some fabrics and materials which can work very well for the thermal insulation purpose. Among these materials we can find some special microfibres such as the one known as thinsulate which can be a great choice for a diver. There are many modern materials which might allow you to keep your body temperature through their thermal insulation capabilities at the same time than allow you to have a great agility.

There are some clothes meant to keep each specific body part warm. For the neck, you should wear a woolen or similar scarf; ideally made of cashmere due to its comfortableness and malleability. For your feet, you can wear woolen socks or clothes made of the same material you have chosen as an under suit.

It is also important to remember that we always loose a lot of our body heat through our head. Therefore, it might be important that you wear something to insulate your head from the cold which surrounds you. As you can see, there are specific clothes for each body part which you should consider before you start your cold water diving. It is very important that you wear them since, among other reasons, loosing your body temperature might even make you loose some of your thinking capabilities and become a serious risk.

Convert Your Car Using Gas4Free Water- Review

How Is It Possible To Run My Car Or Truck On Water?

Remember, you still have to take the occasional trip to the gas pump because water is supplemental to your gas or diesel fuel. 100% water cars are still on the drawing board, but extracting energy from water to double or triple your fuel economy is VERY EASY.

This is not new technology. We’ve been using water to gas converters in our vehicles for over 4 years. This is proven technology. Using a simple device, you can use the electricity from your battery to separate water (H2O) into a gas known as HHO. HHO is two parts Hydrogen and 1 part Oxygen. HHO is a supercharged gas that burns effectively and produces significant energy, greatly improving your fuel economy. Incredibly, the waste product is water!

This is very easy to do, we will show you exactly how! We've taken an almost century old suppressed technology, updated it and simplified it using local hardware store parts and created an effective, affordable and simple device. Our water conversion guide will show you exactly how. This system is very easy to install and requires very little maintenance. Plus, it works on all vehicle types.

FACT: Pound for pound HHO is 3x MORE potent than gasoline! Are you Spending too much on gas? Maybe it’s time you joined the thousands of people worldwide are already using HHO technology to dramatically improve fuel economy.
How Does It Work?

Converting your car to a water burning machine is simple. There’s no need to change your engine or your cars computer. Just fill this simple device with plain water and once your start your car, the electricity from your car will begin producing HHO gas (Hydrogen + Oxygen).

It’s very simple to install. The HHO gas generated from the system is sent to the engine’s intake manifold as shown in the diagram below. Our design makes installation super simple, it only takes minutes to connect. The system uses vacuum pressure to send more HHO gas as your engine's RPM rises.

The electrical connection is just as simple. Other systems use completed wiring that require an experienced mechanic to configure. Our device by-passes the complications by connecting the 12 volts of our battery with one connection to your ignition switch. This ensures that hydrogen will only be produced when your car is on. For added safety the system is fully protected by a fuse. The entire electrical connections could take less than 20 minutes to connect.

After testing hundreds of designs including stainless steel wire, plates, tubes of all different shapes and sizes, we came up with our unique design. Through extensive testing with our $2,000+ gas volume meter, we found our design produces the most HHO gas with the least amount of electric power from your car’s battery.

Water Powered Car - Learn How to Use Water as Fuel on Your Car

The uncontrollable raise in the fuel prices had become a matter of concern among the different countries of the world. Petrol, diesel and other means of energy had remained a very important source of energy from past several years. But now water powered car has risen as a boon in front of the man kind and help them to fight against the energy crises. Now the question arises, by what way one can conserve million tons of fuel with Hydrogen-on-demand System and how to alter the system of your car according to the requirement of the water fuel.

In fact it is quite adventurous to run the car on water and it is not different from merging the world of fantasy to the world of reality. For the process of Water powered car gasoline also plays a very crucial role as they merge with the gas obtained from water and delivers terrific amount of mileage to the car. Due to increasing price of gas; water has raised as a cheap source of energy provider which is similar to the gas. Now, what transformations are required by the water powered car to run on water?

The process of getting water fuel is termed as Electrolysis of water which results in the conversion of water into two kinds of flammable gases called Hydrogen and Oxyhydrogen. The atoms of the molecular structure remains the same but only reshuffling takes place which results in the production of a gas called HHO which is very productive as a fuel and helps in running the car with the help of water fuel. The process of Electrolysis does not demand any external source for the supply of electricity; it can be covered from the car battery highlighting one more advantage of it. Subsequently, the car battery is utilized to electrolyze the water giving Hydrogen gas or rather Oxyhydrogen gas. After accomplishment of the process the major work is to transfer this fuel into the gas tank and add it to the gasoline which is already present in it. The water fuel has its own advantages; it not only provides you a pollution free vehicle but also a good option against the gas fuel providing mileage equivalent to it but at a cheaper rate.

Hence, while driving the car battery continuously converts water fuel for providing additional energy. This will not only prevent high expenses of money for the purpose of fuel in the car but also provide you good mileage at a cheap rate so that you can use your surplus for other useful works.

Run Cars on Water - Can Your Car Really Run on Water?

This research had suggested many names which included hydrogen power, steam power, solar power and other hybrid sources. These alternative sources have the advantages of their own but unable to provide adequate velocity to the automobile engine. Additionally, none of the source has the potential to carry the engine of a car for a longer period of time. They also deliver threat to the security issues as steam power is not a proper resource to deal with because it can cause many accidents to the vehicles. Further it is not suitable option as per the environment conditions as well. Hydrogen is quite a friendly option in comparison to the steam and other sources but its volatile nature induce it quite far behind in the race. Bio fuel technology can be a best option but only when if the concern country if not largely depend on the agriculture sector. If it covers a vast sector then the country fails to provide adequate amount of land for bio fuel technology. This is the reason why quest is still on for a reliable energy source.

As it is rightly said, requirement is the mother of new inventions. Due to scarcity of the available means of non renewable sources of energy; scientists had invented new strategies and methods with the help of which one can run cars on water excluding the role of petrol, diesel or any other sources of fuel. Sure, one can now easily run cars on water with proper mileage and speed. It is not the fascinating truth; actual fascinating truth is that it has already became successful in its first attempt and already proved to be a boon to over 10,000 clients.

The process to run cars on water works on a simple scientific principle. The process of electrolysis played a very vital role in the conversion of water into an excellent fuel. In the process the splitting of water molecule delivers the output of two gases namely oxyhydrogen and hydrogen which provides HHO gas which proves to be a best kind of fuel for this purpose. Battery fitted in the car is quite capable to provide the required energy. The overall process seems to be simple; yet effective to provide the solution of shortage of non renewable resources. This will not only fulfill the vision to run cars on water but assists the efforts to protect the environment from the adverse effects of the pollution.

Towing Your Vehicle Safely

Double check that you have everything that you will need to tow your car properly. This includes making sure that the hitch you are using is the right one for your vehicle as well as the weight restrictions. This must match up. If you try to force a hitch to work that is not the right size, the car could come loose while you are towing it. Confirm that all electrical components are working as they should be and secure the safety chains. Make sure that they are secure by testing them first. If you have never hitched a car for towing before, ask someone to show you how it’s done correctly.

Once you have hitched your car up and double checked that everything is as it should be, you are almost ready to get moving. Before you attempt to drive away towing your car though, don’t forget to release the parking brake and put the car into neutral. If you forget to do this you could seriously damage your car since the wheels will resist and remain locked as you attempt to pull it. Make a note of this to prevent mishap.

Pay attention to your speed when you drive with a car being towed behind. If you go too fast you risk placing unnecessary strain on the vehicle. It’s best to stay at a steady pace without slowing and speeding up too often. Drive in the slow lane on the highway so that you do not become an obstruction to those moving much faster than you are. Watch out for others on the road when you are changing lanes or pulling off the highway. If you need to stop, try to do it at a location specified for pit stops. If you stop on the highway you risk causing or becoming involved in an accident.

Make sure that you never tow the car with anything living inside of it. This includes everything from people to pets. It’s a serious safety issue that needs to be mentioned because some people continue to do it. Moving a large, heavy vehicle always has its risks. Do your part to reduce and eliminate them. If you are not experienced with towing a vehicle as you drive, have someone drive who has done it before. It can be difficult to handle driving with all of that additional weight. Share the responsibility so that you are not overwhelmed. Safely towing your car is easy when it’s done correctly and with caution in mind.

Renting a Classic Car

Special days such as weddings or graduations often involve a lot of planning. Having your dream car for your perfect day is a reasonable wish. Even though it’s temporary, the pictures and the memories will last a lifetime. Leaving your wedding in a sweet old Rolls Royce sure beats using your own everyday vehicle. Make your dream come true by checking out rental options near you. The average person cannot usually afford to own a classic vehicle but with a rental you can dress up your day with something unique.

The rental of classic cars is growing in popularity among those getting married. It seems that many couples are looking for alternatives to a limousine and many have certain cars in mind they would love to arrive to their big day in. Certain types of classic cars may be much harder to find than others but finding some in general shouldn’t be all that difficult. Your trouble may lie in availability so you should always make sure to plan ahead. If you make the mistake of waiting too late to book your rental then you may be out of luck. It’s a good idea to reserve it as soon as you book your wedding or special event.

When you do secure your car rental you need to go over a few things. Like with any rental you must be clear on all of the required legal aspects. Insurance is the first thing that you need to ensure is properly in place. If anything were to happen, you don’t want to be responsible for the cost. You also will want to have a look at the car in question before signing any agreements. It should be exactly as you expect. Check the cleanliness and the shape of the car. Make a note of anything that looks amiss or any damages, no matter how minor they are. You don’t want to be faulted for them later.

Have a backup plan just in case. You never know when something could come up. There could be a problem with the car last minute or any other possible occurrence. Keep a backup plan simply so you do not become stuck with nothing. A good rental company will go out of their way to make sure this doesn’t happen but one can never always tell. A classic car rental can be the icing on the cake of perfection. Consider one for your next big event.

Insurance For Your Classic Car

You may want to try starting out with your own insurance provider. Ask them if they offer specialty insurance for classic automobiles. If they do then you may even score a deal since you already do business with them. If anything it will eliminate the need to search for a classic car insurance broker. If your insurance company does not offer specialty coverage, ask if they can direct you to a reliable source that does.

Having a very old car does not always make it a classic. There are certain stipulations for what makes a car an antique or classic. Every insurance company is different so ask around and see if your car qualifies. Usually a car that is a well known such as muscle cars or certain models of sports cars will qualify. Also incredibly rare cars will usually be considered antiques. Determine if your car is indeed considered a classic by insurance companies before doing any negotiating.

There are many rules affiliated with having specialty insurance on your vehicle. Quite often you will not be able to use it as a vehicle that you drive daily. Rules often indicate the car must remain parked in a safe place like a garage. You can only drive it to car shows or special automotive events. Go over every detail before you commit to an insurance plan. Proper storage is always going to be an issue. A covered location where the car is away from the elements is a must. If you do not have one then there are rental facilities where you can pay to store it safely.

Many insurance companies will allow you the option of working out a statement of agreed value. This means that there is a prior agreed upon amount that the car is worth in the event that it does become damaged or involved in an event. This can be tricky because you want that value to reflect the true and actual amount.

Always be sure to get your insurance through a company that regularly deals with antique car insurance. A company that does not may not have the proper knowledge for this type of situation. You will have a greater peace of mind if you deal with someone that knows and insures classics all the time. It’s in your best interest to follow all of the agreed upon rules regarding the insurance for your car. Insurance for your antique car is a special investment that you need to be able to trust.

Properly Storing Your Antique Car, Should You Store it Yourself Or Find a Storage Facility?

However, if the car owner does not have the basic maintenance facilities required to store the car and still retain its worth, then its best if she/he consider getting a storage facility for it. However, like in everything else, information on how to store an antique car can be acquired. For first timers, basic knowledge on what best suits the cars and what would erode the value or even performance should be top among the things that they should seek to understand. To start with, the person charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the car is well kept should know that fuel usually goes bad after three to four months. This makes fuel treatment during the storage period extremely important because it determines the overall performance of the car. The car may be good to look at externally, but if its performance does not match the aesthetics, then it will not only disappoint the owner, but admirers too. Cleaning the car both inside and outside is another aspect that the owner should consider when deciding whether to store the car personally or store it in a storage facility? Nothing beats owner inspected cleaning.

However, seeing that storage facilities have sophisticated equipment and different methods to perform the cleaning process, one would have to carefully weigh the benefits against the detriment of both options. Removing the battery also ensures that the corrosion that may occur on cables is avoided. Professional storage facilities may also use trickle chargers to prolong the life of the battery during the period that the car will be in storage. Prior to making the decision on where to store the car, one should consider the kind of facilities availed in both options. In areas where the weather gets extremely cold, ensuring that none of the parts in the car can be damaged by the freezing temperatures is important. Whether at home or in storage, the caretaker should ensure that as temperatures change, the car is well maintained to help various parts adjust to the temperature changes.

Alternative Fuels in Today's World

There are now many alternative fuels that could provide our vehicles with power and save our eco system. Farther, it has been discovered that some alternative fuels are being made from crops such as corn or oats which makes them environmentally safe and helps the American farmer. There are some alternative fuels that come from emissions let loose from landfills. We need to look to the future care of the earth and start maintaining our eco system. We cannot exist without earth it is our home and as human beings we have no other place to go. It may sound foolish to think that a few gasoline driven vehicles could upset the balance of nature but it is not. When we upset the balance of nature then we indeed risk destroying our world and all the inhabitants.

Using alternative fuels like hydrogen, propane, natural gas, ethanol, electricity and the many other sources is much more desirable than that of destroying the world that we live in. We need to think of not only today but we need to think of the future that our children and their children will have living on earth. Many auto manufacturers are seriously considering changing the engines in the new vehicles to operate on alternative fuels rather than the continuous use of gasoline. Many economists are afraid that if we stop using the gasoline based engine that our economy will go even farther in the red causing another great depression. The truth is that we can survive not using oil based gasoline for our vehicles and that by using alternative fuel we might save our economy. We no longer would have to depend on foreign countries for our energy supplies. This would increase our own economy production of fuel based products making our country that much stronger financially. As life goes on, we all soon realize how much the fuel industry has changed. In the meantime, we can only sit back and watch the industry grow.

Bajaj Auto

This has prompted the traditional manufacturers of scooters in this country Bajaj Auto to sit up and take notice. They have come up with Bajaj Wave DTSI which is stylish and are cheap scooters than any other expensive set of two wheels in the market.

Scooters have come a long way since it was first launched in India way back in 1975, for thirty odd years these metal bodied geared machines have ruled the roost on the Indian roads. The Indian Government bought the Innocenti Company of Italy the original owners of Lambretta brand of scooters to set up scooters India limited. The first scooter to have rolled out of the company was called the Vijai Super. In the same year it launched the Lambretta brand of scooters for the overseas market.

During almost the same time another phenomenon was hitting the Indian two wheeler market, in the year 1959 Bajaj Auto had already acquired license from the Government of India to manufacture two and three wheelers in the country. It took Bajaj a little over a decade to launch its' most successful model Chetak named after the horse of a legendary Rajput ruler. Not to be left behind the Lohia Machinery Limited or LML as it is popularly known had changed the face of scooters in India with its collaboration with Piaggio of Italy.

However the dream run of these metal bodied scooters have been stalled by theirs more illustrious cousins the motorcycles. Bajaj Auto tried to do some damage control and wean away customers from the motorcycle segment by launching the four stroke legend which offered a bike like mileage of about 60-70 kmpl. But with Bajaj officially stopping productions this year the only way for scooters to survive would be to go towards the Kinetic Blaze and HondaDio way.

Honda Scooters

Similarly HondaEterno from the stables of Hondascooters and motorcycles India has been instrumental in reviving the geared scooter market in India. Eterno has a four stroke engine to counter the problem of fuel efficiency which the scooters face. It also has the highest ground clearance in its class for a smooth riding.

Scooters in India

First the bad news the age old metal bodied geared scooters may be heading towards a timely death in the country in due course of time, then the silver lining, the age old set of two wheels could re-invent itself in the form of moto-scooters. These mean machines are taller, stronger and faster than their predecessors and can deliver a punch which would be as good as the motorcycles if not better. Kinetic Blaze by Kinetic motors is as attempt by the company to retain a market share in the scooter segment which is become a

niche market with every passing day. These new set of wheels with their peppy performance is meant to draw the attention of the metro sexual two wheeler buyers. Kinetic Blaze was one of the seven designs the company had sourced from the legendary Italian two wheeler manufacturer ItalJet Moto. Kinetic Blaze is one of the biggest scooters to have traveled on the Indian roads. In terms of power it is only two Bhp less than the Bajaj Pulsar. Kinetic is pinning its hopes on this model to revive the sagging scooter market in this country.

LML India

LML, formerly known as Lohia Machines Private Limited, is India's leading manufacturers and has 30% of the market share. The company first started its technical collaboration with ARCT, France and got involved in synthetic Yarn Manufacturing Machines. LML became a public limited company in 1978. In 1984 LML started its scooter project after signing technical agreement with Piaggio of Italy. LML's joint venture with Piaggio ended in 1999. Soon after, an agreement was signed with Daelim Motor Company of

South Korea to manufacture 4-stroke motorcycles.Indian Ministry of Science and Technology, recognized the company in 2000 for its remarkable success, in introducing new models of scooters in the market with more fuel-efficient engines, new electrical systems, latest emission norms, upgraded technology and better styling.

LML production is mainly in the metal body geared scooter with models like NV Xpress, Star Xpress, Select II, Pulse and the Sensation, which faced decline in 2006. The company in order to regain its supremacy in the automobile market, launched two-stroke metal body geared scooters, including two and four-stroke plastic bodied gearless scooters, both in geared and gearless versions. LML tied with Bitubo of Italy for components such as advanced front and rear suspension systems. LML’s new vehicles sported new features such as disc brakes, electric start, digital ignition and auto lube. LML made a comeback with 'Vespa' branded geared scooters and launched 1500ccc Vespa into the market, after a break of 14 months.

Due to severe financial crunch LML, stopped its major production in Kanpur plant. Before this, LML had five motorcycle models in the domestic market, and used to sell around 1,000 units a month, in the national capital (Delhi). But LML soon bounced back and regained its position by exporting geared scooters abroad in the countries like Egypt, West Asia and Africa, besides Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Boosted by the robust domestic demand for scooters, LML is all set to gradually get into Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and then to West Bengal, Assam and few other states. LML, India's leading scooter manufacturers has been one of the fifth largest players in the motorcycle segment in India. Its future strategy to stronghold their position in the market includes, selling spare parts online, facilitate authorized dealers with a WAN (wide area network) and setting up training schools to train mechanics in Mumbai, Kanpur, Bangalore, Calcutta and Noida.

Kinetic Motor Co. Ltd.

Kinetic has launched India's first motoscooter in the form of Kinetic Blaze. Kinetic Blaze is a 165 cc scooter which seeks to revolutionize the diminishing scooter market in the country. The product is a first of the seven series of vehicles which Kinetic want to acquire from the Italian two wheeler giant Italjet Spa. However the beginning of the company has been much more modest. The company has revolutionized the concept of personalized transportation in India with the launch of Kinetic 'Luna' moped in 1972 thus ushering in the era of mopeds into the

country. Kinetic has also brought to the fore superior technology to the scooters by introducing things like auto choke, auto fuel cork and TLAD suspension. It also brought in gearless scooters in the country. Kinetic Hondawas quite a rage among women who preferred the convenience and easy maneuverability of a gearless scooter than a geared one.

Kinetic has three manufacturing facilities located at Goregaon Bhima, Ahmednagar and Pithampur to produce more than 4 lakh vehicles per year.
Kinetic motor began in 1984 with collaboration with Hondamotor of Japan to sell advanced scooters in India. Kinetic motor has also positioned itself as a leading exporter of two wheelers to destinations like USA, Canada, Latin America, Europe, West Asia and South Asia.

The surging growth of the two wheeler industry in India has been influencing several new entrants to start manufacturing newer version of automobiles. In the last fiscal, the two wheeler industry in the country has seen a remarkable double digit growth against the previous year. A total of 5, 56,000 units of the automobiles were produced in India in the last financial year. Leading two wheeler manufacturers like Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda, TVS Motor, Yamaha Motor are continuously innovating and coming up with new two wheelers to rope in the increasing number of potential consumers in India.

The annual sale of these various companies has also increased due to the three wheeler loans offered by numerous financial institutions and banking organizations.

By availing a two wheeler loan, many people in India have been able to get away with the hurdle of huge amount of one time monetary investment. If you are taking the auto loan, then in most of the cases you may have to give small down payment. However in some of the cases the customers need not make any down payments at all.

Repayment is done mainly through equated monthly installments. Most of the public sector undertaking (PSU) banks in India charge interest of about 12% per annum. Majority of the PSU banks offer an amount of INR 50,000 to INR 1, 50,000 as loans for a two wheeler.

There are some criteria based upon which the auto loans for two wheeler are sanctioned. The individuals seeking loans should have annual gross income of about INR 50,000 or more. The individual can be a businessman, professional or car is job holder. Loans are provided for both new vehicles or for used two wheelers that are up to 3 year old. If you are a transport operator then you have to down-pay minimum margin money of about 15 % of the invoice value, tax amount and premium of insurance for buying a brand new three wheeler. For a used one, you have to pay minimum margin money of about 25%. Requirement of guarantee is not mandatory, however in some of the cases you may be asked to deposit any collateral security. Repayment is usually done within 60 months in equated monthly installments. The interest rates may be higher in the private banks and private financial institutions. One thing should be noted that all such terms and conditions may vary from one bank to another, one financial institution to another.

Commercial Vehicles Statistics

Commercial Vehicle Statistics are very important guidelines for people using Commercial Vehicles on an everyday basis. Commercial Vehicles as we all understand are only used for commercial purposes.

Broadly, Commercial Vehicles can be classified into five different categories, namely: Trucks, Buses, Ambulance, Tractor, Crawler & Cranes, Excavato, Wheel Loader, Loading Shovel, Telescopic Handler,

Further, we can sub-categorize by saying that, Trucks and Buses mostly fall under the Heavy Commercial and Light Commercial Vehicles group. Ambulance would fall under Emergency Vehicles. Agricultural vehicles would include Tractor. Crawler & Cranes, Excavator, Wheel Loader, Loading Shovel and Telescopic Handler would all fall under Earth Movers& Construction Vehicles. So as there are so many different categories and sub-categories of Commercial Vehicles. It becomes really important for the owners, manufacturers and dealers of Commercial Vehicles to maintain all kinds of possible Commercial Vehicle Statistics for their everyday use.

Thus making Commercial Vehicle Statistics a very integral part of the information required by the owners, manufacturers and dealers of Commercial Vehicles. Commercial Vehicle Statistics are basically guidelines maintained by various organizations for their referral. These include current and pervious figures of import, export, production etc. They are also categorized into different sections, depending on the different kinds of vehicles being produced. For example, the different sections of Commercial Vehicles are, M&H Commercial Vehicles, Light commercial Vehicles, Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Agricultural Vehicles, Emergency Vehicles, Earth Movers& Construction Vehicles Etc. These vehicles are used for various purposes and hence are also categorized accordingly.

The various components of Commercial Vehicle Statistics are as follows:
Exports of Commercial Vehicles
Production Commercial Vehicles
Evolution Commercial Vehicles
Bus and Jeep and Tractor History
Insurance of Commercial Vehicles

The main players of Commercial Vehicles in India are as follows:
Ashok Leyland Ltd.
Hindustan Motors Ltd.
Telco
Force motors Ltd.( Previously known as Bajaj Tempo Ltd)
Eicher Motors Ltd.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
Swaraj Mazda Ltd.
Tata Motors

Heavy Commercial Vehicles HCV Showrooms

The popular heavy commercial vehicle manufacturers like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Eicher all have a good number of showrooms spanning the entire country. Almost all the leading towns and cities in India have set up showrooms of these companies that offer all range of heavy commercial vehicles. An important objective served by the showrooms is the availability of all vehicles of the automobile companies before the customers close to their place. As such, the customer gets a chance to see the vehicle on his/her own, test ride and feel it and then make a decision if that specific HCV suits his style, needs and budget.

The automobile companies carry out market research and surveys from time to time. Based on their findings, they determine the customer preferences and try to develop their HCVs on those lines. Once the commercial vehicles are ready as per the specifications, an extensive media and advertisement campaign is undertaken highlighting the features before the target audience. The companies then present their vehicles in showrooms and the potential consumers get a real chance to see the HCVs of all forms like big trucks, carriage vehicles, tippers, tractors and the like.

Another purpose that the commercial vehicle showroom serves is that it bridges the gap between the company and the customer. The customer visits the automobile showroom and provides the company's representatives with his opinion about the vehicle after seeing the features. This consumer feedback is important in the sense that it enables the company to understand the customer's mind and make the necessary modifications in the vehicle as and when needed.

The showrooms for the commercial vehicles as that of for other automobiles are attractive and provide a pleasant and comfortable ambiance to the customers. They are provided with a good bit of hospitality and every effort is made to ensure that the customer develops a positive impression about the company's product and of the company itself. This actually could later on translate into enhancing and broadening the company's market share in the commercial vehicles segment.

Heavy Commercial Vehicles

Exports of Commercial vehicles are in full swing at the present moment. And to add fuel to recent growth in this sector, the Indian automobile companies have decided to extend their manufacturing capabilities along with their international counterparts. Hence, the recent boom in the Exports of Commercial Vehicles division is due to the newly improved network and infrastructure. The attractive financial packages that are being offered along with the improved infrastructure are an added advantage for the industry. The recent growth of the Indian economy and

the upward trend of the Indian market is a very healthy signal for the export division.

However, a lot depends on the budget and its implications on the exports market. Thus making it very important for the key players of the Indian economy to take correct decision for its betterment.

It has always been noticed that the passenger car industry gets more recognition and focus in comparison to the Commercial Vehicle industry. However, going by the statistics we find that there has been a phenomenal growth in the sales of the Commercial Vehicles since 1998. The total sales of M&H Commercial Vehicles were 15,906 units in 2000 in comparison to the 12,949 units in 1998. In the same way, the total sales of Light Commercial Vehicles in 2000 were 8,642 units in comparison to 6,931 units in 1998. Even in the Multi Utility Vehicle Segment the sales have gone up from 13,400 units in 1998 to 17,194 units in 2000.

This transformation in the Commercial Vehicle industry came into effect from the mid 1990's. Earlier, the scenario was not stable at all, as there were only a few local companies dealing in this particular sector. However, as soon as the concept of globalization was introduced in India, this particular sector gained speed with the MNC's making Foreign Direct Investment in as early as 2002. Thus, making India a perfect destination for global outsourcing. This is mainly due to the cost effective environment and the technologically skilled personnel found here. The condition of the industry, the willingness of the country to invest and the skilled labor are the other few reasons behind the specified sector to flourish.

According to the Economic Survey of Indian Government, the automobile Industry has made a 15% growth in general and in particular the Commercial Vehicle sector made a growth of about 10%. The number of automobile manufacturing facilities in India has grown to nine for Commercial Vehicles as well. The Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) grew by more than 19% during 2005-06 as compared to 2004-05.

Though there has been a thrust in the domestic market, yet the export potential of the country has not been properly exploited yet. It's still an untapped market. Although some amount of progress is being made. However, Export of Commercial Vehicles increased by 36% to 40,581 units in the 2005-06 as compared to 2004-05. India is also the largest Tractor Manufacturing country in the world. It has produced 270,000 units in 2005-06.

According to the Commercial Vehicle Manufacturers of India, the growth in the recent past has been around 20 percent, and they predict that there will be phenomenal growth in this sector in the recent future. Their projection for the future is around 22 percent.

Almost all the Indian manufacturers are focusing their attention on South Asia, Middle East and Africa as potential markets for the finished products. The reason being, the demographic similarity between the manufacturing country and the potential markets.

Light Commercial Vehicles

Light commercial vehicles (LCVs) are usually referred to goods and carriage vehicles with a light capacity that varies from one region to another. In Europe the popular definition for a light commercial vehicle is one good vehicle with a maximum permissible capacity of 3.5 tones of mass. The importance of a light commercial vehicle is obvious especially in a newly industrialized economy with large regions to cater where such vehicles play a niche role in transporting goods from one place to another throughout the country.

In the Indian automobile context, light commercial vehicles have assumed a great degree of significance with the national economy poised for a greater leap forward. No wonder, all the leading automobile manufacturers are having their operations in the field of LCVs. Tata Motors for one, has made its position unique in the commercial segment of Indian automobile by having a presence in all spheres, light commercial vehicles, heavy commercial vehicles and the like. However, the other leading automobile players like the Ashok Leyland and Swaraj Mazda too, are not lagging behind and they have their own aggressive expansion plans on show.

Some of the popular offerings in the field of light commercial vehicles from the Tata Motors stable are Tata 407 and Tata 709 of which the former has made a distinct mark in the category of Indian LCVs. However, the recently launched Tata Ace has brought about a dramatic change in the Indian LCV market. Low priced and attractively designed, the Tata Ace has been hugely popular and recorded significant sales in the first year of production itself.

Ashok Leyland is another major LCV player with products like Cargo 759 Tipper to boast of. With a wheelbase of 3200 mm and 5 speed synchromesh gearbox, it has got 4 cylinder diesel power engines. The Premium model of Swaraj Mazda has a wide cabin and wheelbase of 2815 mm, has 4 cylinder engine capacities while Cosmo, another of its LCVs, has an overall length of the vehicle 4789 mm. Dual Cab and steel High Deck are the other popular forms of Swaraj Mazda's range of LCVs in India. Eicher 10.60 and Eicher 10.70 are the other popular LCVs that are visible on Indian roads.

Sports Utility Vehicles

The origin of the SUV (Sports-Utility-Vehicles) can be traced back to the usage of military jeeps in the aftermath of the World War II period. On account of their off-road capabilities, the sport utility vehicles gradually became popular especially in the rural areas of US and Europe and big automobile majors sensed a growing business opportunity. Starting off with the Toyota Land Cruiser , Land Rover and Jeep Wagoneer, Chevrolet Blazer and International Harvester made their mark on the global automobile market as the SUV Cars. With sports-utility-vehicles gaining acceptance in towns, the market for SUV cars saw an increase in their demand.

Design and Aesthetics
In terms of design and aesthetics, the sport utility vehicles do vary but broadly could be described as non-commercial passenger vehicles built with a body on frame chassis as is seen in many trucks. Known popularly as the "off road vehicle" or "four wheel drive", the sport utility vehicles progressively have undergone transformation in design and components for light weight and fuel efficiency have been incorporated into the contemporary sports utility vehicles. No wonder thus that SUV cars are increasingly being used for recreational and sporting purposes too.

The Indian automobile market in the last few years too has undergone significant transformation. From a few outdated passenger car and truck models to boast of, the car market has grown big and offers a range of choices today. While the country is witness to all kinds of car, the sports utility vehicles too have made a mark in the Indian automobile scene. While Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are the major domestic car makers with a range of SUV, Maruti as the leading Indian car maker was the one to start off with its Maruti Gypsy. Soon Tata Motors came up with its variants of Tata Sumo and Tata Safari while Mahindra & Mahindra launched Voyager, Bolero and Scorpio.

Toyota the global auto major from Japan came hard with its own SUV like Prado, Qualis and Innova. Hindustan Motors in association with its foreign partners launched Pajero, Pushpak and Trekker while the Korean auto giant Hyundai launched Terracan and Tuscon. In the context of continuously increasing demand for the sports-utility-vehicless in India, both the domestic and foreign car makers are putting their efforts in launching newer and varied form of SUV.

Outlander and Grandis from Hindustan Motors, Ingenio from M&M, Roomster from Skoda and Captiva from Chevrolet are some of the other sports-utility-vehicless that are in the pipeline to be launched into the Indian market soon.

Auto Servicing

Servicing is an important part of the automobile industry, many people while choosing their automobiles keep the after sales and service factor in their minds.
When you car requires that extra bit of care then its imperative to take the car to a service station and pamper your vehicle. Many people simply overlook the fact that their cars have to be serviced at regular intervals; they would just tuck way the Car manual , mistaking it for just another unnecessary add on with the car. Those who are a little conscious would get their cars' engine oil and filters changed at that road side garage or a simple service station near by.

Some would just leave their chauffeurs to do the job for them. Such an act is harmful for the car in the long run as a vehicle is a complex system and it requires proper maintenance in accordance to the procedure which is mentioned in the manual.

Many people are so dependant on their vehicles that they would not simply leave their cars, just for a day even for it to be serviced. Most companies are trying to solve the problem with free pick up and delivery of the cars.
In fact Toyota Kirloskar has tried to address the problem by introducing a new concept in car servicing which is called Express Service, which reduces the existing time take to service the car from one day to one hour, thus setting new industry bench mark.

Thus servicing is getting friendlier and convenient with every passing day, and car owners should get their cars serviced from authorized service stations only because they will have the sophisticated equipments which are just right for the car. Something the neighborhood mechanic can never dream of.

Here is a list of jobs which are done in a routine or paid service
Under chassis, engine and body wash/shampoo which is essential for removing the dirt and dust particles which have caught on to the car due to regular usage.

Interior cleaning and vacuuming removes dust from seat covers and the interior of the car.

Body wax polish and dash board/bumpers polish gives that extra shine to the car to make it stand out from the crowd

Engine tuning, including spark Plugs' cleaning/gap adjustment/replacement if due, distributor points'/condenser cleaning/adjustment/replacement, air filter cleaning/replacement, fuel filter replacement, carburetor adjustment, ignition timing reset. All these adjustments are required to keep that car running in that perfect condition

Wheel rotation/tire pressure check is required for vehicle safety.

Brakes' service and adjustments (MUL Omni) and Hand Brake adjustment, if required.

Engine/Gear Box Oil, Filter, Coolant, change/top-up. Brake fluid top-up to maintain these important body parts of the vehicle in that perfect condition

All electrical checks/bulb replacement, wherever required as electrical connections are essential for the safety and smooth running of the car.

Battery distilled water/windscreen washer bottle top-up, these things are required to lengthen the battery life and clean the windscreen when required.

Various control cables' adjustment.

Body rattles/suspension fasteners check/adjustment.

Road Test to determine the condition of the car

Report on Items requiring Owner's Attention, for immediate or future action

Auto Warranty

Earlier, auto warranty meant a replacement of some defective parts from the car within a certain time limit or number of kilometers run by it. This was known as the bumper to bumper warranty and it did not encompass the car accessories like Audio systems, tires, and batteries.
Now, with the entire automobile industry caught up in the grip of competition, the launchings of newer and attractive models are followed by freebies that also include attractive auto warranties.

Extended Warranty is one of the Auto warranty services offered by automobile companies. As its name suggests, Extended Warranty extends the service period of the car by one or two years. A vehicle can wait for not more than 10 months from its date of purchase before opting for the warranty.

Total Maintenance Plan was introduced by Ford India. Under this warranty, a car was entitled to total maintenance at a price as cheap as Re.39 per kilometer for three years.
This scheme is popular, firstly owing to cheap maintenance and secondly because it ensures a good resale value of the car. Apart from this, the warranty also offers non-scheduled maintenance, which covers replacement of brakes, clutch, wiper rubber etc. A second hand buyer too is entitled to the Total Maintenance Plan.
The warranty period of international brands like Hyundai, Toyota, General Motors are much more.

Driving Safety Tips

The increasing number of vehicles in the country has catapulted the importance of safety, while we can't do anything about the circumstances beyond our control; here are a few tips to keep you safe.Always wear seat belts as wearing seat belts decreases death by (20 to 30)%, the government should formulate a law to make wearing seat belts compulsory as in the case of Kolkata. While driving at night make sure that all lights (head and tail) are working. Make sure to drive at night with the headlight in low beam to avoid bedazzling of vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
While driving on the highways make sure you maintain proper distances from heavy vehicles as they might not be able to stop at a short notice.
Take adequate rest while going for long drives to prevent fatigue and exhaustion . If these points are kept in mind when you taking your car out chances are there that you will reach home safe and sound to be with your loved ones.

Automobile Surveys

Surveys are also conducted by certain agencies on behalf of their clients; some specialized agencies like TNS have come up with insightful surveys on the automobile industry of the country. A survey like the JD Power Survey is one of the most comprehensive and reliable surveys as it takes into account every second a person spends with his or her car.The data is then recorded and a comprehensive verdict on each car, which is surveyed, is given.

Similarly the bodies like Society of Indian automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Department of Road Transport and Highways have all the relevant data connected to the automobile industry.

Automobile Leasing

If we go by its literal meaning, the word automobile Leasing primarily means, letting a car provide services for some other person other than its owner under an agreement or a term of contract. The main principle upon which this concept of leasing of automobiles is based upon is price depreciation. The period for which an automobile is kept on lease is known as the lease term. This lease term, generally expressed in number of months, in most of the cases is found to be 24, 36 or 48 months. However, lease periods can also be more than these stipulated terms in some of the rare cases.

Though the concept of automobile leasing in India is relatively new, it is fast catching up. A number of automobile leasing companies have come in and offer automobile leasing service to the intended consumers. One needs to pay only a part of the automobiles cost which is consumed while driving the same. In leasing you need not worry about making a lump sum down payment. However, you need to pay the pRevailing sales tax (as per the country's rule) and also a special financial rate of return, which is better known to be the Money Factor. This Money Factor is somewhat similar to the interest rate you need to pay in case of a loan. In some special cases of leasing, you may also be asked to pay a security deposit.

All the automobile lease payments are primarily constituted of two parts. The first part is called the Depreciation charge. It refers to that payment which is needed to counterbalance the vehicles value which might be lost during the tenure of the lease. The second part is called the finance part and is the interest which is intended to be realized in the process of leasing.

However, this concept of automobile leasing can also get confusing at times with all the residuals and money factors. Some people are found to lease their cars with the intent of buying it at the end of the lease period, or even before hand. If this is practiced, it will eventually turn out to be a more costly proposition than normal buying. So, if you are crazy about new cars and want to drive them every now and then, and want to pay lower amount as your monthly payments for the same, then you should always go for automobile leasing and rule out the idea of buying them.

Auto Component Manufacturers

The next big thing to happen in India after software, textiles, pharmaceuticals and BPO would undoubtedly be the auto component manufacturing industry.

The global automotive component manufacturing industry is estimated to have a market size of around $1trillion. Ford Motors, Delphi Corporation, Caterpillar, Cummins, International Truck and Engine Corporation and last but not the least General Motors (GM) are some of the leading global automobile components manufacturers of the world. With importations of components worth $69 billion a year, the US stands at the top of all the auto component markets the world over.

Auto Component Manufacturing Hubs

The main automobile components manufacturing hubs in India are situated in Chennai, Pune and Gurgaon. The magnitude of the Indian auto component manufacturing industry stands at Rs 25,000 crore ($5 mn approx.). Though relatively small, the Indian automotive component manufacturing industry due to a huge talent pool of skilled automotive engineers and access to the latest technologies has a great potential to emerge as a big player in the near future.

Used Car Component Manufacturers:

Those customers eager to buy used cars can revamp their car with used car components. Used car components include Engine Parts, Steering Parts, Suspension and Brake Parts and Electrical Parts. There are a number ways to sell a used car i.e. through car owners, car dealerships, car agents, car rental companies at nominal rates.

ACMA

According to the Automotive Component Manufacturers' Association of India (ACMA), the domestic Indian auto component manufacturing industry is heading for a whopping 18% growth in the coming years compared to the export market which is estimated to reach $2.7 bn by the year 2010.

Lacking the required infrastructure, the Indian auto component manufacturing industry falls way behind the major global players in terms of production capacities. Due to this fact, it also lags behind other nations in getting large manufacturing orders. Or even if it manages to get one, it ranges below the $100 mn mark, which is considered a mere figure as per the automotive industry standards. Though striving to better its standards, the Indian auto component manufacturing industry has registered a robust growth in the recent past. The three main factors providing impetus to this industry are the ever increasing domestic automobile industry (two-wheelers, commercial vehicles and passenger cars), the aftermarket sales and servicing industry and the outsourcing of component manufacturing to India and China by the global titans to cut down on their cost of productivity and thereby laughing all the way to the banks. To improve upon the auto component industry in India, the need of the hour is to focus on its competitiveness, learn the best manufacturing practices, be quality conscious and at the same time inculcate a prompt delivery culture.

Automotive Technology

Automotive technology or automobile technology refers to those technologies that are popularly incorporated in various kinds of automobiles. With the changing times, the emergence of advanced technologies is paving the way for more and more sophisticated vehicles. Some of these technologies are listed below as follows:
Driverless cars: These 'intelligent vehicles' are capable of taking a person from one point to another without any driver. Providing a "taxi-like" experience to the passengers, these vehicles would navigate the roads on their own. Also

called as autopilot, autonomous vehicle or auto-drive car, these vehicles are expected to be fully functional by 2020. An example of such smart cars is the 2getthere passenger vehicle that is based on the FROG navigation technology that originated in The Netherlands, DARPA Grand Challenge (from USA) and AGRO research project (from Italy).

Emission Standards: With the help of automotive technologies, a check can be put on the emission of harmful pollutants such as NO 2 , particulate matter (PM) or soot, carbon monoxide (CO) or volatile hydrocarbons. As a result, it would be easier to lower down the pollution level and save the planet from global warming.

Automotive Engine: Coming all the way from the steam engines built by Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot in 1769 to the modern day 4-stroke internal combustion engines, the automotive engine has come a long way. It was human perseverance and determination to build something better and powerful that has finally paid off towards achieving the means of faster and more comfortable journey today.

Suspension technology: The suspension system comprises of springs, shock absorbers and linkages. This system connects the vehicle to its wheels. The main function of a suspension system is to minimize jerks and provide comfort to the occupants of the vehicle. With the advancement of technology, gas-filled shock absorbers have come to being which are much more responsive than the spring absorbers.

Apart from the above mentioned technologies, steering technology and safety technologies have also helped the automotive industry in a big way to reach great heights.

Auto Accident

In today’s fast world, everything has become very fast and speed has become the other name for life. This theory is applicable for all the different aspects of life. And so it even includes fast driving and riding as well. To add to this the auto manufacturers are coming up with faster cars and bikes everyday. This has lead to an increase in the number of accidents every year and it seems to increase year after year. Although different governmental and non governmental organizations do carry out workshops and other training programs to make people aware of careless driving, yet this whole process has not been very successful till date.

What Is Car Insurance

Car insurance is a type of insurance coverage that provides protection to the car owner against unexpected and unforeseen accidental injuries, damage, theft or third party liabilities. Car insurance helps in avoiding unnecessary expenses. Third party only and comprehensive or package policy are two types of car insurance are there for the car owners.

Bike Insurance

Bike insurance offers cover for damages and injuries and minimize risks and costs. Without insurance, both the motorcyclist and his vehicle are left with serious damages. But with the help of bike insurance one can claim for compensation and cover the cost of damage done to them and the vehicle.

The last one isn't the slow one

Sometimes, in traffic, you will naturally start classifying people as
slow or fast. I'm not entirely sure what goes into classifying them,
but you know as well as I do, that you do this. Without going into the
degrees of good-fast versus reckless or good-slow versus
idi-effing-ot, I was thinking about it and I realised that I consider
myself pretty quick through traffic. And for a fair amount of time,
I'm last or nearly last in traffic. Does that describe you too?

I figure that it's because my take-off from the traffic lights and
progress through traffic tends to be on the rapid side, and most of
the time, I catch up with the traffic that's ahead of me. In
traffic/transport planner terms, a group of traffic that leaves
together from a traffic light is called a platoon. Each cycle of
greens causes a platoon. Er, the point is, that I'm usually at the end
of the platoon. Doing what? Passing them, of course. And I'm sure
there's more riders like this out there.

Point? Don't automatically dismiss those at the end of the platoon,
they're probably just taking some time to get ahead. I think this
point has wider meanings that purely in traffic, but that's purely
unintended.

How to Buy a Used Tractor and Save Thousands of Dollars

The secret to getting a great deal when buying a used tractor is to be armed with information. Start by knowing how to quickly determine the age, condition and average selling price for any brand and model of used tractor. Then know what problem areas to take a close look at. The final step is to know the seven negotiating statements that will drastically lower the asking price of any tractor -- including the one sound that you can utter that will knock 10% off the price of any tractor.

Let's start at the beginning. The first step to getting a great deal on a used tractor is to do a little research and be an informed buyer. Let's start at the beginning. When you're looking to buy a used tractor don't worry that it may be older than you are. Buying a used tractor is not like buying a used car. Tractors are made to last forever and you can still get parts for almost any tractor regardless of how old it is. Also, unlike your car, tractors are relatively easy to fix. Keep these facts in mind when you're looking for a used tractor.

When buying a used tractor, one of the most important things to look for is a hydraulic system or three-point hitch as it is commonly called. The power-take-off or PTO is part of this system. Ford introduced the three-point hitch on their 9N tractor back in 1939. Farmall and John Deere waited a little later before they came out with a three-point hitch, but still most tractors you look at will have the three-point hitch, but be sure to check.

The three-point hitch and PTO system is very important because without it you will be limited in what you can do with your tractor.  So my advice is to only look at tractors with a three-point hitch. The next step is to determine the age of the tractor you're considering. The best way to determine the age is to find the serial number and look it up on the Internet. Cars change designs every year, but tractors only make changes every decade or two, so you can't tell much about how old a tractor is by just looking at it.

The Internet has a wealth of information about tractors. A good website where you can use the serial number and find the date a tractor was manufactured is Yesterday's Tractors at YesterdaysTractors.com.  When you get to this site, click on "Tractor Registry" in the left Nav. panel to find information on any tractor. You can also use this site to see how much a particular type tractor has sold for recently.

The condition of a used is more important than the age. To determine the condition of a used tractor check to see if it has a tachometer that includes an hour meter. A lot of older tractors won't have an hour meter. You can tell a lot about the condition of a used tractor by how much the petals are worn, how much play is in the steering and checking to see if there are any oil leaks. All of these factors will help you estimate the condition of a tractor.

Don't be fooled by a new paint job. It could be covering up things. Also look at the tires. Just because the tires have good tread, it doesn't mean that they're in good condition. Check for dry rot and cracks. A good set of tires could cost you from $500 to well over $1,000.

Of course, check to see how the tractor starts and how it runs. If someone is trying to sell a tractor and they can't make it start easily, there could be problem. You may want to have a mechanic look at the tractor with you. If the tractor is hard to start in warm weather, it will be even harder to start in colder weather. After you start the tractor, check to see if there is excessive smoke from the exhaust.

After you have checked all of the above points, you will probably know more about the tractor than the owner knows.

The next step is to check prices:

Two good places to check prices (other than Yesterday's Tractors) are TractorHouse dot com and eBay. On eBay be sure to check completed auctions to see what tractors like the one you're looking for really sold for. You can use this information in your negotiating.

One final point: How much equipment (if any) comes with a used tractor can be a big factor in determining the value of the tractor. Also, factor in how you will get the tractor home. If you can get a trailer in the deal, that's that's always a big plus.

When you're armed with all of the above information, your final step is to "Negotiate like a Pro." Here's how to do it.

Seven negotiating techniques for people who don't like to negotiate:

1.    Offer way less than you expect to have to pay.  Some people say, "I don't want to negotiate and play games with you. I will give you $5,000 for the tractor and that's it."  These people almost always end up negotiating and paying a lot more.

2.    Always gasp and act shocked and surprised at the other side's first price. Without saying a word, this lets the owner know that you think their price is totally unreasonable.

3.    Never, ever say yes to the first price they quote you --  even if the price is less than you expected to have to pay. If you say yes too quickly the other side will know that they priced the tractor too low. Then they may say something like, "Well let me clear this with my partner."  Then he will come back and say that his partner would not agree with the offer.

4.    "You've got to do better than that."  Always use this expression sometime during the negotiations.  This will almost always get you a lower price.

5.    Use the "good cop/bad cop" technique.  For example, say, "I would love to buy your tractor at that price, but my wife would kill me.  She's dead set on me not paying more than $3,500 for a used tractor."

6.    Arm yourself with information.  The more you're prepared with facts and information, the better deal you can negotiate.  For example, say, "I have checked eBay and other Internet sources, and tractors like this one never sell for more than $35,000."

7.    Never agree to split the difference.  The other side is almost always willing to split the difference, so offer less than half of the difference. You'll usually get it.

Use these techniques and you will come out with the best deal possible on a used tractor. Don't forget that there are a lot of good used tractors out there, so always be willing to walk away from any negotiation.

The Law and Road Traffic Accidents

Rivers Cuomo, born in 1970 in New York City, New York, rose to fame in 1994 when his band, Weezer, released their eponymous debut-album, also known as the Blue Album, spouting the hits “Buddy Holly”, “Undone – The Sweater Song” and “Say It Ain’t So”. Bridging the gap between power-pop, grunge and the burgeoning second coming of punk, Weezer were credited with fully bringing geek-cool to the forefront of rock music.

Then, much unlike most rock artists, Cuomo decided to take a short break from music to enroll to Harvard University. Rivers was also born with one leg shorter than the other, and while attending university, he underwent surgery to rectify the condition, which required him to wear a steel brace on one leg and perform stretching exercises for months. The experiences came to flavor the recording of the difficult second album, named Pinkerton. The bitter and isolated lyrics, combined with a noisier soundscape made for a critical and commercial disappointment, but the album has since grown in reverie with the band’s fanbase.

Following Pinkerton, Weezer again went on hiatus, this time for 5 years. Rivers initially wanted to go back to university, but decided he wanted to focus on songwriting. Due to creative differences band-members left and were replaced, sending Rivers into depression, painting the walls of his home black and putting fiberglass insulation over the windows so no light could get through.

Luckily, Weezer snapped out of their lull, and returned in 2001 with their also-eponymous album, nicknamed The Green Album by fans. Sporting more radio-friendly fare than Pinkerton, the album brought the band back into the conscious awareness, and sported the hits “Hash Pipe” and “Island in the Sun”. Rivers continued to display his eccentricity by growing a considerable beard and would often end nights on tour by going out to rave clubs, walking the streets until it was time to go on to the next city.

Weezer soon followed up the Green Album with Maladroit. Essentially a mix between all of the previous releases, the album cemented Weezer as a band that was here to stay, featuring a memorable video for “Keep Fishin’” involving The Muppets. Around this time, Rivers decided to commit to a vow of celibacy for two years or until he got married, whichever came first.

No stranger to the delights of the road, Rivers decided to commit to the vow in order to become less distracted from writing songs, taking up meditation and getting rid of his house, adult entertainment collection and car – which no doubt pleased the recipients who wouldn’t then need to look for a mortgage, more adult material or used car finance and decided to live in a small flat next to producer Rick Rubin’s house while creating the songs that would materialize on their Make Believe album, which was released exactly 11 years after the Blue Album, becoming their second-biggest album in the US to date.

Following this, Cuomo decided to return to university to finally graduate and eventually married, stating that Weezer might never record another album, but luckily for the fans this was decided against, and in June 2008 Weezer’s third self-titled album, also known as The Red Album, was released - its lead-single “Pork and Beans” topping the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for 11 weeks.

Having been a successful musician for a decade and a half Rivers is likely to be remembered in equal measure for his music and quirky character by fans and critics alike.

Driving down the cost of car ownership

Anyone who owns a car knows just how expensive it can be. Hardly a week goes by where one oil firm or garage doesn't raise the price of their petrol, while motorists live in fear of the next Budget, as it's often inevitable that the cost of road tax is liable to be increased. All the while, the potential of your car suffering a breakdown could mean a costly repair looming in the future.

However, while some of the costs associated with motoring are outwith the motorist's control, there are some areas they can be address to help keep the cost of motoring down. In fact, many motorists could make substantial savings if they take the time to shop around for better deals when they consider buying a new car, or renew their car insurance.

Often when buying a new or used car, motorists tend to arrange their finance through a dealer's finance company. But, while this can be convenient, it is important to remember that the interest rate may be higher than a personal loan obtained through a High Street lender, or online broker. As a result, it is often worthwhile to obtain quotes for your car loan from more than one lender to ensure that the interest rate and repayment terms are suitable. Bear in mind also, that although, the interest rate offered by a dealer might be higher than that of a High Street lender, the car dealer might offset this by offering other incentives, such as an extended warranty or free servicing as part of any deal.

Many motorists elect to change their cars to coincide with the launch of a new registration, with yearly increments in the registration marque taking place each March. Unsurprisingly, this is the most popular month for a new car purchase, and March 2007 accounted for 1 in 5 of all new cars bought that year. However, as new marques flood the forecourts at premium prices, the second-hand market can yield some excellent bargains as owners use their old cars to part-finance their new vehicle purchase. This can also be true when a manufacturer launches an updated or restyled model, and motorists who are prepared to wait can make substantial savings around these times.

However, one drawback of new registration marques and new models of car is the fact that they can sometimes increase the price of car insurance premiums, and along with other mitigating factors such as claims against uninsured drivers and unrecoverable losses, motorists might find their car insurance goes up slightly each year despite them never making a claim on their own policy.

Despite the rise, many motorists often accept the rise without question; perhaps down to loyalty to the provider or apathy surrounding the possibility of having to shop around. However, with the car insurance market remaining highly competitive, car insurance providers will often try to match or better quotes obtained from other companies. As a result, it often pays dividends to spend some time searching for a better deal. Go online, for example, and use any one of the many comparison websites to check the current market and gain an idea of how much you could save by switching cover, or enlist the aid of an insurance broker who can do all the searching for you and advise on the best quotes available.

Motoring is expensive; although some factors which affect the cost of motoring can't be controlled by the motorist, there are still some areas, such as car loans and car insurance, where the customer is still King, and by taking time to shop around could save a King's ransom.
