Yamaha Motorsplanning to launch scooter in the India next year. Yamaha Motors have its fair share in the India two-wheeler market, with 15%. Honda with its scooter Deo and Activa, and TVS with its Scooty pep have already ruled this segment for a long time so it is the right time forYamaha to inject some new appeal in this segment by launching its racing inspiredmoto-scooters.
Sanjay Tripathi, Division Head (product planning & strategy), Yamaha Motors, told media that thescooter which is to be launched will have an engine as equally powerful as a bike engine, while the transmission will be automatic. In addition to the scooter, the company also plans to launch two motorcycles, he added. It is expected that the new scooter have a capacity around 125-150cc competing with the Kinetic Blaze and the upcoming Bajaj Blade.
Yamaha Motor had sold around 1.15 lakh bikes between January and December 2007 and in this year it sold around 1.4 lakh bikes in first 10 months. This sales figure will jump as the YZ R15 and FZ 16 have got immense success. And now, Yamaha is trying to recover its lost ground in India and the numero uno position in the higher capacity segment that it always deserved.
The Yamaha FZ 16 and the YZ R15 have helped the company grow its sales by 44% in India to 19,000 units in October this year comparison to same month last year, when the two-wheeler industry reported negative trend.
